On Tuesday, November 19, Tata Power Company Ltd announced that it has partnered with Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd (DGPC), a division of Druk Holding and Investments Ltd, Bhutan’s only generation utility, to jointly develop at least 5,000 MW of clean energy generation capacity in the country.
According to the statement, the collaboration will develop at least 5,000 MW of renewable energy projects in phases, including 4,500 MW of hydropower, which includes the 1,125 MW Dorjilung HEP (hydroelectric project), 740 MW Gongri Reservoir, 1,800 MW Jeri Pumped Storage, and 364 MW Chamkharchhu IV.
Tata Power Deals with Bhutan’s Firm
A collaboration to build 5,000 MW of renewable energy projects in Bhutan has been launched by Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation Limited. This strategic partnership intends to produce 500 MW of solar power, 2,500 MW of pumped storage, and 2,000 MW of hydropower in order to promote India’s clean energy transition and enhance regional energy security.
The historic deal, which was inked in Thimphu in front of the prime minister and other high-ranking officials, is the biggest collaboration between Indian and Bhutanese power corporations. It supports Bhutan’s goal to diversify its energy sources beyond conventional hydropower and increase its energy generation capacity to 25,000 MW by 2040.
