Old age is the stage of life in which a person’s body parts weaken and become partially or entirely dependent on others. The Old Age Grant is only one of the numerous ways SASSA helps needy people and communities in South Africa. SASSA’s old age grant recognizes its esteemed senior residents for maintaining an acceptable standard of living in their later years. In this program, adults aged 60 and up are allocated R2110 to cover their basic requirements or medical bills.
SASSA Old Age Grant
Payments for the SASSA Old Age Grant will start to arrive on the day your application was accepted, if it is accepted. For Old Age Grant beneficiaries 75 years of age or above, SASSA pays R2,200 per month; for those under 75, it pays R2,180. The new SASSA enhanced grant payments for 2024 are reflected in these payment amounts.
SASSA Old Age Grant Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Old Age Grant, candidates need to fulfill a number of important requirements:
- You have to be a permanent resident of South Africa or a citizen.
- Fifty years of age or older is required.
- In order to be eligible for the grant, you must pass a means test that evaluates your assets and income.
- An aged care facility or old age home that receives government funding is not a place you can live.
